Davenport School District Asks for Input on Solving Budget Gap

Posted: Updated:

With up to $4 million in cuts to Davenport schools, district leaders are set to turn to the community and ask for input on what to cut from their 2013 budget.  Tuesday is the first of three public hearings.

The district has already gotten recommendations on where to cut. Now it wants to know what questions and concerns people have about them during a public meeting at Central High School. The largest item on the list is the possible closure of Lincoln Elementary School. That would save the district $1.3 million.  Enrollment has been down at the school for years. It's only at one third of it's capacity.

Other possible cuts include some jobs like eliminating a golf coach at each high school and assistant principal positions at Northwest and Central high schools.
