(MYFOX NATIONAL) – After a traumatic attack which left her injured in the '90s, former figure-skating Olympian Nancy Kerrigan has had her share of heartache and controversies to overcome.

But according to JustJared.com this week Kerrigan released a letter to friends and fans, telling them her father's recent sudden death has been the most "difficult" time of her life.

"I never met someone who didn't like my dad -- he's funny and a joker and means well, and I guess you always knew you could count on him," she told Entertainment Tonight in her first interview since the tragedy. "He's like my safety net, so it's a little scary living life without him, but I can do it. He taught me to be strong."

Earlier this week, JustJared reported investigators announced that the death of Daniel Kerrigan, 70, would be treated as a homicide.

But the ice skater told ET the family wrote a letter disagreeing with the medical examiner's findings.

Kerrigan said they are standing behind her brother, Mark, 45, who is undergoing an evaluation at a mental hospital after being arrested on assault and battery following a scuffle with his dad, reported MyFoxBoston .

And Kerrigan will get back to work shortly to cover the Winter Olympics in Vancouver as a special correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.
